The Pink City of Royal Heritage

Step into a world of regal grandeur where pink-hued buildings line the streets, majestic forts crown the hilltops, and centuries of royal history come alive at every turn.

About the City

The Pink City of India

Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. It holds the distinction of being one of India's first planned cities, designed according to Vastu Shastra and the ancient Hindu treatise on architecture. The city earned its famous nickname "The Pink City" in 1876, when Maharaja Ram Singh had the entire old city painted in terracotta pink to welcome the Prince of Wales. Today, a law requires buildings in the old city to maintain this iconic pink facade, creating one of the most visually stunning urban landscapes in India.

As one of the three points of India's celebrated Golden Triangle tourist circuit (along with Delhi and Agra), Jaipur attracts millions of visitors each year. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers an extraordinary blend of ancient architecture, living traditions, and vibrant markets. Its bazaars are legendary -- Johari Bazaar for gemstones and jewelry, Bapu Bazaar for textiles and handicrafts, and Tripolia Bazaar for lac bangles and brass ware. Jaipur is also one of the world's largest centers for gem cutting and polishing.

Beyond its architectural marvels, Jaipur is a city of living culture. Traditional block-printed textiles, blue pottery, meenakari jewelry, and miniature paintings continue to thrive as art forms. The city's cuisine, featuring dal baati churma, ghewar, pyaaz kachori, and laal maas, offers a rich culinary experience. With its blend of royal heritage, colorful traditions, and warm hospitality, Jaipur provides an unforgettable introduction to the grandeur of Rajasthan.
